"A Howler at Howley Hall."

HHDUGC were brought to earth with a disappointing result.
We always seemed to be behind. Appearing not to put many good holes together Greaves said.
In the morning foursomes 4 matches came to the last and we lost 3 and of course the 3 points that's goes with that.

If we'd been 9 - 3 then it may have helped. Having said that it was 6 apiece and I felt we could be strong enough to squeeze past them.

The Union Champion started us off well with a thumping of Tom Broxup ably backed up by Scot Minto but then it was a turgid affair and the scoresheet tells the story.
Once again we lost the 2nd game by losing the last hole.

It was fantastic for Connah Judson to win the last 4 holes to halve his game with a sand save on the 18th matched by Matthew Holden having lost the 17th to a birdie.

HHDUGC got back to winning ways

With a focused and determined team perfomance after their disappointing effort at Howley Hall (Leeds).

"This could have been another banana skin but they didn't want me to be grumpy."

Josh Morton winning 5 holes on the bounce in the singles from the 10th to go from 4 down to a win along the way eagling the 15th,

Adam Walker waking up when 5 down and birdieing 5 in a row, only to 3 putt the last hole and lose his match.

Oliver Caton always in control of his singles match, playing golf of a Yorkshire Boys Champion hitting the uphill par 4 15th (242 yards on the card) with a 3 iron!

HH v ER

Match v East Riding - Sunday 4th August, 2019
- Huddersfield GC

Halifax,Huddersfield 28 - 8 East Riding
Official Result on YUGC Website

Huddersfield played host to the 5th match in the 7 match league season as third place Halifax, Huddersfield and District Union of Golf Clubs (HHDUGC) took on leaders East Riding.

East Riding attending without their strongest team but including the Yorkshire Team Champion players from Hornsea.

Foursomes set, which pitches East Riding’s oldest and youngest players (Phil Scott and Luke Thornton) with HHDUGC ‘S oldest and youngest, Ben Walker receiving his senior team debut around his home course, Greaves collecting his 49th appearance.

The foursomes are hard fought and although it finished 12 – 0, the boys won the last hole three times they played it which was fantastic.

During the morning Josh McAspurn holing the 2nd shot into the 470 yard 9th from 127 yards.

At lunchtime the 12 – 0 is being discussed, is it a first, has it been done before, I can’t remember, many suggest.

Greaves the man with the stats, “happened 2 years ago when we did the same to York”

“Of course it helps when a majority of the team come from the home club... I plan for that!”

As normal in the singles Josh Morton leads us off as always, reliable, winning, Tom Hunt playing American scholarship student Matty Raybould loses the last to an eagle to halve his game.  Aaron Schnacke beats the Yorkshire Boys Captain and Yorkshire player Jack Maxey.

Scot Minto loses 1 down to Tom Broadley who finishes 2, 3, James Edwards coming unstuck against the experienced Andy Lockwood and Josh McAspurn losing to Nick Raybould who is in a rich vein of form, who equalled the course record at Hornsea the previous week.

Ben and Adam Walker being well up and winning their matches 6 and 5, Greaves tired but not wanting to lose, 3 down 6 to play “I can’t let the boys down”, birdies the last to win 1 up.

Former Huddersfield player and double Union Match play Champion Chris Lander returning a victory along with anchor man James Skirrow who wins 6 and 5 after his 4 year absence from the team.

Last men on the course Graham McLean against Andy Woodhead (East Riding Team Manager) sharing the points as gentlemen often do!

HAR v HH

 Match v Harrogate - Sunday 18th August, 2019

NAIL BITER HAS HHDUGC SNEAK A DRAW

The first YIDU league title in 25 years still rests in the hands of HHDUGC as they win the last four singles on the course to get an 18 all draw with Harrogate and District at a blustery Ilkley. Greaves numbed by the disappointment of a draw, reminded many times that he was an idiot for
feeling that way.
The first 5 holes follow the river and with a good wind blowing from that side made the holes harder than they already are.
The Harrogate players knowing that a win for them and another in the last league match may see them as Champions as well made for enthralling days golf.

Hunt and Morton beaten in their foursomes, “that’s the best we’ve ever played and we lost” stated Josh.
A turn round in game 4 as James Edwards and Chris Lander par the last 2 as their opponents bogeyed them to give HHDUGC a win.
A birdie at the last by Richard Fawcett and Chris Henderson denying Ben Crowther (50 th appearance) and Mark Birkett a half point.
Match score at lunch 6 – 6, Greaves laid out his order, 12 wins, can’t see anything else he thinks, they are that good.
However it doesn’t turn out like that, a couple of misfiring superstars, 4 down, 4 down, a 1up,
Greaves fearing the worst. Off the buggy see how the last matches are doing, last 6 are winning but a long way to go. Tom Hunt
loses, Aaron Schnacke loses, Josh Morton wins, Scot Minto (Champion at Halifax the day before) really needs to win, a fantastic shot to 17 sets up a birdie and a 2 and 1 win. First 6 singles games, won 2 lost 4. Match score 14 – 10, Chris Lander was in charge of his match but Joe Buckley “wakes up” as Chris described and birdies 17 to mark a great comeback and win his game. Match score 16 – 10.

Harry next in a battle up by 1 , all square, down by 1 has a chance at 17, not taken, pars the last as does his opponent Richard Fawcett, 18 -12 now. James Edwards has destroyed home club member Chris Hughes 5 and 4.
Easy; win the last 3 games, match is drawn, that’ll be okay!
First Ben Walker beats Phil Kitching, news travels that Ben Crowther has birdied 15 to win his game,
Mark Birkett 2 up, has 3 footer to par 17 and win his game.
Can’t watch... can’t imagine... if he misses he’ll have another chance at 18. I’m not good at watching. .. Ponders Greaves.
In it goes, relief, numb, raining... is it pie for tea?
Match score 18 all.
